The LA Basin is on the move. And the transportation industry is in critical need of qualified employees to keep our infrastructure expanding and our region thriving. With 50% of its workforce eligible for retirement by 2024, Metro is actively working to train new workers for a wide range of exciting jobs in transportation.1 The LA Basin Workforce Network (LABWN) has partnered with the Metro’s Workforce Initiative Now–Los Angeles (WIN-LA) program to connect our region’s job seekers to transportation career paths with plenty of room for mobility.

MULTIPLE CAREER PATHWAYS

WIN-LA training programs connect the LA Basin’s most underserved and vulnerable residents to an exciting range of rewarding, high-growth careers that offer good living wages and potential for career advancement. Participants can choose the career pathway that fits their experience, goals, and interests.

BUS OPERATOR

Operates public transportation buses
to transport passengers.

Wage pay range: $15.82-$24.34 per hour

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION TECHNICIAN

Maintains and repairs electronic
equipment used on buses.

Wage pay range: $30.94-$38.67per hour

CUSTODIAN

Maintains Metro property and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive environment.

Wage pay range: $17.40-$24.85 per hour

FACILITIES SYSTEM TECHNICIAN

Maintains and repairs mechanical and electrical components and systems across Metro facilities

Wage pay range: $32.28-$40.48 per hour

RAIL ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION INSPECTOR

Maintains and repairs electronic equipment on the Metro Rail right-of-way, public areas, and other Metro locations.

Wage pay range: $32.28-$40.48 per hour

SERVICE ATTENDANT

Services and cleans Metro vehicles and equipment.

Wage pay range: $19.00-$23.75 per hour.

SYSTEMS ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION TECHNICIAN

Maintains and repairs advanced communications systems within buildings and other fixed locations

Wage pay range: $16.19-$17.60 per hour

TRANSIT SECURITY OFFICER

Provides unarmed security for Metro employees and property

Wage pay range: $32.28-$40.48 per hour.

STOCK CLERK

Maintains computerized inventory records of vehicle parts and materials

Wage pay range: $20.85-$29.79 per hour

SYSTEMS ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION TECHNICIAN (ITS)

Maintains and repairs advanced communications systems within buildings and other fixed locations

Wage pay range: $32.28-$40.48 per hour.

SERVING THE UNDESERVED

WIN-LA focuses on connecting underserved residents to a diverse range of training and job opportunities at Metro. Program participants include emancipated foster youth, veterans, single parents, those experiencing homelessness, individuals involved in the justice system, job seekers who have not completed high school or their GED, community college students, and women.

INDIVIDUALIZED PLANS

Each WIN-LA participant receives an individualized career pathway plan based on needs, goals, and experience. Participants also receive a dedicated career coach, educational assistance, life skill development, as well as help with job searches, applications, interviews, and placement.

RESOURCES AND SUPPORT

Along with training, WIN-LA participants have access to a range of support resources, referrals, and services including assistance with housing, child care, transportation, mental health and wellness, and more. These services are provided through our partners and America’s Job Centers of California (AJCCs) across the region.

LIFE TRANSFORMING

Graduates of WIN-LA’s unique program have gone on to enter careers earning good wages with opportunities for advancement and long-term employment. They’ve also transformed their lives and the lives of their families, through self-sufficiency, dignity of work, and job security for the future.
